Today I announce the appointment of Mr Jeff Roach OAM as Australia's next High Commissioner to Solomon Islands.
Australia and Solomon Islands are Pacific family and friends – we share a region, a future, and a history of partnership.
Australia is Solomon Islands' largest development partner, with investments in every sector and every province.
We are working together to support inclusive economic growth and integration, including through job creation, trade, and enhanced cultural connection.
Australia is also committed to supporting Solomon Islands' evolving security priorities, including through our landmark police expansion partnership as well as our longstanding policing and defence cooperation.
Mr Roach is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and most recently led the Government's initiatives on the Tuvalu-Australia Falepili Union and the Nauru-Australia Treaty as Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Pacific.
He has previously served overseas as High Commissioner to Vanuatu and Deputy Head of Mission for the Australian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. He has also held postings in France and Laos.
I thank outgoing High Commissioner Rod Hilton for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Solomon Islands since 2023.
