Today I announce the appointment of Mr Jamie Isbister as Australia’s next High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
Australia and Papua New Guinea have never been closer. Our Pukpuk Alliance reflects the deep trust we share as neighbours, partners and friends.
Together our two countries are instrumental in shaping a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Pacific. With common history, close geography and shared values, the bonds between our countries, peoples and communities are as diverse as they are deep.
Mr Isbister is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Deputy Secretary, Development, Multilateral and Europe Group.
Mr Isbister has over 30 years’ experience working in foreign, humanitarian and development policy. He has served previously as Australia’s Ambassador for the Environment; the Australian Government’s Humanitarian Coordinator; and as Minister Counsellor (Development) in Africa.
I thank outgoing High Commissioner Ewen McDonald AM for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Papua New Guinea.
