Consul-General in Papeete

  • Media release
31 August 2025

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Greta Whyte as Australia's next Consul-General in Papeete.

As fellow members of the Pacific Islands Forum, Australia and French Polynesia enjoy a warm relationship, with growing education links, particularly in scientific and marine research.

We work closely with French State representatives in French Polynesia on regional security, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, climate initiatives, and maritime surveillance.

Ms Whyte most recently served as Australia's acting Consul-General in Papeete and has held various roles in the Middle East and Africa Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Prior to joining the Department, Ms Whyte spent a decade working in the international humanitarian sector serving in senior leadership roles in the Middle East, United Kingdom and Pacific region.

I thank former Consul-General Alison Shea for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in French Polynesia since 2023.
