Ambassador to Peru

  • Media release
30 November 2025

Today I announce the appointment of Mr James Yeomans as Australia's next Ambassador to Peru, with non-resident accreditation to Bolivia.

Australia and Peru cooperate on a range of issues of mutual interest and have a strong and growing trading relationship, with around 100 Australian companies operating in Peru across mining, infrastructure and energy, supported by the Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

2025 marks 50 years of Australia and Bolivia's bilateral relations, with potential for growth in sectors such as mining and agriculture.

Supported by a Work and Holiday Agreement that encourages young Peruvians and Australians to experience each other's cultures, more than 29,000 Australians visited Peru in 2024.

Mr Yeomans is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and has previously served overseas in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico and Chile.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Ms Maree Ringland for her contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Peru and Bolivia since 2022.
