05 July 2026

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Crispin Conroy AM as Australia’s next Ambassador to Mexico.

The Ambassador to Mexico is also accredited to Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

This year marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Mexico. Australia's close collaboration with Mexico advances our shared global interests, including through MIKTA, which Australia is pleased to be chairing in 2026.

Mexico is Australia’s largest trading partner in Latin America with total trade worth $5.8 billion in 2024-25, reinforced through the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Australia also enjoys increasing economic links and community ties with Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

Mr Conroy is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was most recently Director of DFAT’s New South Wales State Office. He has previously served overseas as Ambassador to Chile and Ambassador to Nepal, and in Italy, Israel, Colombia and Papua New Guinea.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Rachel Moseley for her contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in the region since 2023.
