Ambassador for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation

  • Media release
05 July 2026

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Jeremy Green as Australia’s next Ambassador for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

APEC plays a vital role in facilitating sustainable and inclusive growth and promoting Australia’s interests in open markets and rules-based trade in our region.

APEC member economies are home to around 3 billion people and account for over 73 per cent of Australia’s total trade in goods and services.

Australia works closely with APEC members to support economic reform and strengthen regional economic cooperation. Current priorities include advancing services and digital trade and the economic empowerment of women.

Mr Green is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He is currently First Assistant Secretary, Trade Resilience, Indo-Pacific Economic and Latin America Division, and has previously served overseas at Australia’s Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization and in Kenya, India and Chile.

I thank outgoing Ambassador Ms Elizabeth Ward PSM for her efforts in advancing Australia’s participation in APEC since 2024.
