Renewal of UN Terrorism Sanctions Listing
The Australian Government has renewed the listing of Neil Prakash, an Australian citizen formerly of Melbourne and currently in prison in Turkey, for counter-terrorism targeted financial sanctions for a further three years.
This listing makes it an offence to use or deal with the assets of, or to make an asset available to Neil Prakash.
Prakash is alleged to have sought to commission violent terrorist acts, including in Australia. It is also alleged that he exploited social media to spread violent extremism and to recruit others, including young women and girls to travel to Syria and Iraq to join ISIL. Prakash is subject to a formal extradition request from Australia.
This terrorism sanctions listing implements Australia's obligations under United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1373 (2001) to suppress the financing of terrorism.
Full details of all listed persons and entities can be found in the Consolidated List, available on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.
The Australian Government remains determined to combat and prevent terrorism in all its forms.
