New Colombo Plan Patron announced

I am very pleased to confirm today that the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), has agreed to be the Patron of the Government's New Colombo Plan.

The Governor-General brings a wealth of experience and links across the region, garnered over a long and distinguished career of service to his country.

The New Colombo Plan will benefit from the Governor-General's high standing both nationally and internationally.

Under the New Colombo Plan, growing numbers of Australian undergraduate students are already taking advantage of opportunities to broaden their study and work experiences in the region in this pilot year.

I welcome the Governor-General to the role of Patron and take this opportunity to also thank Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO for her role as inaugural Patron of the New Colombo Plan, since the program's formal launch in December 2013.
