China-Australia dialogue with Foreign Minister Wang Yi

  • Media release

I look forward to welcoming Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Sydney for the Australia-China Foreign and Strategic Dialogue ahead of President Xi Jinping's visit to Australia for the G20 Summit.

The Dialogue, to be held this Sunday, 7 September, follows a successful first round of talks in Beijing in December last year.

China is Australia's largest trading partner and an increasingly important source of investment. We have a shared interest in the stability of our region.

The Dialogue offers an important opportunity to set the future direction of our bilateral relationship to ensure that we broaden and deepen our ties across the full spectrum of our common interests.

The Dialogue will also take forward discussions on bilateral, regional and global matters and advance substantive cooperation in advance of the President's visit in November.

This will be my 4th bilateral meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister since last December, and I welcome the opportunity to host the Minister in Sydney.
