Partnering with Non-Government Organisations for development

  • Joint media release

Today we launch a new framework outlining the Australian Government's approach to working with Non-Government Organisations to achieve Australia's aid program goals.

Australian NGOs are key partners in our joint efforts to encourage sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty. We share the same goals and our interests are aligned.

DFAT and NGOs: Effective Development Partners recognises the role NGOs play in the delivery of foreign aid and the value they bring to Australia's development priorities.

The Australian Government partners with NGOs to leverage their local knowledge, connections and expertise in order to promote prosperity, reduce poverty and enhance stability.

NGOs contribute to development outcomes by improving economic opportunities, making institutions more effective and accountable, enabling gender equality, building community stability, and delivering essential services.

The framework was launched at the Australian Council for International Development's Board Meeting in Canberra today.
