Visit to Argentina for G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting
I will visit Argentina from 20 to 22 May to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Ministers from 19 of the world's largest economies, plus the European Union, will convene in Buenos Aires to focus on promoting the multilateral system and global governance, and examine ways to achieve fair and sustainable development.
Australia supports a strong and effective G20. As identified in our Foreign Policy White Paper Australia's interests are advanced by having a voice at the G20, the world's premier forum for international affairs and economic cooperation. We will continue to support institutions and policies that contribute to global prosperity and the integrity of the international financial system.
This is the third time a G20 host has called a meeting of Foreign Ministers. I will take this important opportunity to hold discussions with my G20 counterpart ministers on a range of bilateral and international matters.
I will also meet with counterparts from the Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey, Australia (MIKTA) grouping to discuss our shared interests in promoting the international rules-based order as an effective means of addressing regional and global issues.
I look forward to meeting with G20 Foreign Ministers to promote Australia's commitment to the international rules-based order and to an open global trading system.
