Travel advice to Ukraine
Media release
5 March 2014
The Australian Government urges Australians travelling to Ukraine to reconsider their need to travel, given the escalating crisis in the region.
The Government closely monitors and regularly updates all travel advisories. Australians travelling to Ukraine, or elsewhere overseas, should familiarise themselves with the relevant travel advice on the Smartraveller website.
Australians should register their travel details on Smartraveller before every overseas departure and subscribe to the relevant advice to ensure they receive the latest information. This is particularly important for locations such as Ukraine, where the travel advice is likely to be updated frequently.
Smartraveller advice for Ukraine and Crimea:
Due to the volatile situation in Ukraine, escalating tensions and the risk of violence, the overall level of travel advice for Ukraine has been increased to reconsider your need to travel. Australians in Ukraine who are concerned for their safety and security should consider leaving.
We continue to advise Australians not to travel to Crimea due to the potential for violence. Australians in Crimea at present are encouraged to leave by commercial means if it is safe to do so. If it is not safe to leave, limit your movements, stay indoors, and avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings.
