New Colombo Plan alumni gather in Canberra

  • Media release

Today I welcome New Colombo Plan alumni from across Australia to Canberra for the inaugural New Colombo Plan (NCP) Alumni Forum.

More than 60 New Colombo Plan scholarship and mobility alumni from the 2014 and 2015 programs will participate in the forum to help inform the development of the NCP Alumni Program.

The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government to enhance knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduate students to live, study and undertake work placements in the region.

Since its introduction in December 2013, the NCP has supported more than 4,500 students. By 2016 over 10,000 students will have participated in the NCP and by 2017-18 around 10,000 students will take part in the program annually.

As the program grows, NCP alumni will become an increasingly influential and diverse network of Australians with experience in the Indo-Pacific, and with strong professional and personal networks across our region.
