MH17: Another step for justice

  • Media release

At a meeting of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in New York we have taken a further step toward achieving justice for those killed when Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was brought down over Eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014.

Together with my counterparts from Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine, I have signed a Memorandum of Understanding confirming Australia's full cooperation with and support for the Dutch national prosecution process announced on 5 July 2017.

The five JIT member countries are united in our joint resolve to hold the perpetrators to account, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2166.

The Australian Government has full confidence in the quality, impartiality and integrity of the Dutch legal system and commends the Dutch Government's leadership in seeking justice for MH17.

We urge all states to cooperate fully with efforts to achieve accountability for the 298 passengers and crew who died, including the 38 people who called Australia home.
