Kabul attack
The Australian Government strongly condemns the appalling attack in Kabul carried out with an ambulance laden with explosives, for which the Taliban has claimed responsibility.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those affected by this cowardly attack which has left at least 95 people killed and many more injured.
It highlights the continued threat posed by terrorist and insurgent groups to the people of Afghanistan.
We will continue to work with the Government of Afghanistan and other members of the international community to assist their efforts to build a safer and more prosperous future for the Afghan people.
The Australian Embassy in Kabul is not aware, at this stage, of any Australians having been affected.
We continue to advise Australians not to travel to Afghanistan due to the extremely dangerous situation and the very high threat of terrorist attacks.
