Hajj pilgrimage tragedy
I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragedy and terrible loss of life at the Hajj yesterday.
On behalf of all Australians, I offer my condolences to the families of pilgrims killed or injured during the Hajj pilgrimage.
The Australian Embassy in Riyadh is working closely with Saudi authorities to ascertain whether any Australians have been affected by this tragedy. At this stage Saudi authorities advise that no Australians have been affected.
Should any Australians have concerns for the welfare of family and friends in the Hajj and are unable to get in contact with them, I advise that you call the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 from overseas or within Australia on 1300 555 135.
