Council for Australian-Arab Relations Grants

The Australian Government will support 13 innovative projects to showcase Australian expertise and strengthen ties with the Arab world.

The Council for Australian-Arab Relations has allocated grants to support partnerships between Australian and Arab universities, professional bodies and private sector organisations in education, business, media and the arts.

The successful projects include:

  • the 'World of Women Film Fair Middle East' in Dubai, the only festival for female film makers in the region which will promote and award the talents of female directors, producers, writers, editors and cinematographers in the film industry internationally.
  • an Arab TV cooking show filmed in Australia, featuring Master Chef Tarek Ibrahim, in recognition of the growing demand for Australian agricultural goods in the Middle East.
  • internships for 14 Australian journalism students at media agencies in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan.
  • a media exchange program at the Walkley Foundation for a journalist from the region; and
  • visiting fellowships at the Lowy Institute and Australian National University for esteemed Arab academics, Mr Hayder al-Khoei and Dr Fanar Haddad.

Established by the Australian Government in 2003, the CAAR promotes mutual interests and greater understanding between the peoples of Australia and the Arab world.

This round of grants totals more than $300,000.
