Australian media delegation explores Australia-Indonesia trade and investment ties

Four leading Australian journalists will travel to Indonesia today for the Australia-Indonesia Institute's (AII) inaugural Targeted Media Visit to Indonesia. The delegation will explore aspects of Australia's economic relationship with Indonesia, one of our region's fastest growing economies.

The participants are David Uren, Economics Editor,The Australian, Elizabeth Knight, Economic Commentator, The Sydney Morning Herald, Phillip Lasker, Finance Correspondent, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and Jewel Topsfield, Education Editor,The Age and in-coming Fairfax Indonesia Correspondent.

Participants will meet a range of Indonesian Government, business, media and academic figures and will examine the economic challenges and opportunities facing the newly elected Indonesia Government, and implications for Australia's trade and investment with Indonesia.

Indonesia is a significant economic and regional partner for Australia. Two-way trade in goods and services reached $14.9 billion in the 2013 calendar year, making Indonesia our 12th largest trading partner and 11th largest export market. Australia also works closely with Indonesia in multilateral and global fora, including the World Trade Organisation, APEC and the G20, to support global and regional trade liberalisation and economic growth.

The visit is funded by the Australian Government through the AII. The AII has been strengthening understanding and friendship between Australia and Indonesia for 25 years.
