Australia-Indonesia Institute Grants

  • Media release

Today I announce the recipients of 11 new grants funded by the Australia-Indonesia Institute 2017-18 grants round.

Australia's relationship with Indonesia is critical to our strategic, security and economic interests. The grants program fosters links between Australia and Indonesia, increases cultural awareness and further strengthens the already close relationship between our two nations.

Indonesia is one of our most important regional partners and we are deeply committed to greater engagement.

The 11 innovative projects awarded grants totalling over $240,000 will promote our relationship with Indonesia in the areas of arts and culture, education and economic diplomacy.

Successful projects include:

  • A project to divert plastic waste from landfill and oceans into recycling in rural Sumbawa by the Perth based Millennium Kids;
  • Support for OzAsia Festival in Adelaide which includes artists from West Java, East Java, Papua and Sulawesi;
  • A Melbourne University project to collaborate on the detection of significant poultry diseases; and
  • A program to train teachers from South-East Asian countries in science, technology, engineering and maths by the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.
