I congratulate the 16 recipients ofAustralia-ASEAN Council (AAC) grants for 2017-18.

The AAC, launched in 2015, aims to increaseknowledge sharing and promote Australia's interest in South-East Asia. TheCouncil works to initiate and support activities designed to enhance awareness,understanding and links between people and institutions in Australia and theten South-East Asian counties.

To this end, the AAC grants program enhancescollaboration between Australian organisations and partners in South-East Asiaby supporting engagement across economic diplomacy, education, women inleadership, science and technology, and the arts.

Successful 2017-18 projects include:

  • ASwinburne University of Technology facilitated knowledge sharing project inrainwater tank development for households and schools in the Philippines;
  • AWestern Sydney University project which connects Vietnamese and Australianfemale entrepreneurs in agri-food business; and
  • Ajoint university competition in developing a virtual business plan and tradeinformation website, connecting top students between the University of NewEngland, the University of Rangsit in Thailand and the University TeknologiMARA Malaysia.
