ASEAN-Australia Counter-Trafficking
Yesterdayat the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Sydney, Australia announced aten-year, $80 million commitment to continue our long-running collaborationwith ASEAN to combat human trafficking in our region.
Endingthe scourge of human trafficking, modern slavery and forced labour are apriority for Australia. This transnational crime crosses borders and requires aregional response.
ASEAN-AustraliaCounter-Trafficking will build on our 15-year history of supporting improved criminal justicesector responses to these crimes in ASEAN.
Wewill work with ASEAN states as they implement their landmark ASEANConvention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children,which entered into force in March 2017.
Thenew investment will also work with civil society, the private sector and the BaliProcess on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related TransnationalCrime.
