2016 Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award

  • Media release

I am pleased to announce that applications for the 2016 Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award are now open.

The Award provides the opportunity for one Australian and one Indonesian journalist to undertake a visit of up to two weeks to our respective nations, to build a stronger understanding and appreciation of the issues facing both countries. This will include a fully-funded program, tailored to each journalist's areas of expertise and reporting responsibilities.

The Award commemorates the distinguished career of Elizabeth O'Neill OAM, who died in the service of the Australia Government in Indonesia on 7 March 2007. It builds on her tireless work to foster mutual understanding between Australia and Indonesia by encouraging accurate and informed media coverage.

The Elizabeth O'Neill Journalism Award is open to high achieving journalists from print, radio, television and online media organisations.

The successful applicants must be available to travel in the first half of 2016. Applicants must be Australian citizens resident in Australia or Indonesian citizens resident in Indonesia.

Full application details can be accessed at http://dfat.gov.au/news/news/Pages/elizabeth-oneill-journalism-award.aspx

Applications close on 8 January 2016.
