Council on Australia Latin America Relations: Appointment of new Executive Committee Members

I am pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to the Executive Committee of the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) – Mr Craig Foster, Mr Robert Grant, Mr David Luboff and Mr Greg Martin.

I also announce the re-appointment of four current members of the Executive Committee – Professor Margaret Gardner, Mr Charlie Sartain, Ms Cristina Talacko and Mr Richard Warburton.

The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) was established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia's economic, political and social relations with Latin America.

Since its establishment, the Council has worked to enhance people-to-people links between Australia and the region, particularly in the priority areas of business, education, sustainability, tourism and cultural promotion.

The new members will bring to the Council a wealth of experience and expertise in a range of fields which will greatly assist COALAR.

Mr Foster is the Chief Football Analyst with SBS Television. Mr Grant is the Chief Executive Officer, Pacific Hydro and Chair of the Clean Energy Council. Mr David Luboff is the Chief Executive Officer, Macquarie Specialised Asset Management Limited. Mr Martin is Executive Chairman, Grant Samuel Infrastructure Funds Management and Chairman, Gas Valpo S.A. (Chile).

I welcome Mr David Luboff as the new Chair and Mr Richard Warburton as Vice Chair.

I also pay tribute to four current members who will retire from the Executive Committee on 30 June 2010.

Chairman Mr Bernard Wheelahan, Vice Chair Mr Jose Blanco, Ms Martine Letts and Mr Philippe Etienne have made a significant contribution to the effective work of COALAR and to the strengthening of ties between Australia and Latin America.

Mr Wheelahan, Mr Blanco and Ms Letts have been Executive Committee Members since the inception of COALAR nine years ago.
