Retirement of Duncan Kerr

I congratulate Duncan Kerr on his substantial contribution to the Parliament and to public life.

I have known Duncan since before either of us became members of the House of Representatives.

I have always greatly valued his counsel.

He and I have served together in the Parliament since 1993 and I have appreciated his friendship, his professionalism, and his intelligent contribution to policy.

He made a substantial contribution as Minister for Justice and Attorney General in the Keating Government, and during his time as Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs in the current Government has again contributed significantly to one of the Government’s foreign policy priorities.

The recent Pacific Islands Forum in Cairns was extremely successful and caps a substantial contribution from Duncan in his role as Parliamentary Secretary.

I wish Duncan and his family the very best in his career post Parliament.

It was a pleasure to have served in the Parliament and Government together.
