Australia Condemns Bombings in Jaipur
The Australian Government condemns last night’s bombings in the Indian city of Jaipur and offers its deepest sympathies to the victims of the attack, their families and the people of India.
The bomb attacks, which occurred in markets and other crowded places in the capital of Rajasthan State, were clearly intended to inflict maximum casualties on innocent civilians.
This reprehensible act, for which there can be no justification, is reported to have killed more than 80 people and wounded 150 more.
This attack on a democratic, tolerant, open society is repugnant. Australia hopes the perpetrators are brought to justice quickly. Australian and Indian law enforcement agencies continue to work together in our common fight against terrorism.
The Australian High Commission is in contact with Indian authorities and is seeking to confirm if any Australians were involved.
