Australia Selects Designer of the Australian Pavilion at World Expo 2010
The Australian Government is pleased to announce that Melbourne-based company, Think OTS, will design the Australian pavilion at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Think OTS has been selected following a competitive tender process.
World Expo 2010 is set to be the biggest and most dynamic world exposition ever, with as many as 600,000 people expected to visit the site each day over the six months of Expo.
The Expo’s theme – ‘Better City, Better Life’ – is both timely and highly relevant to the pressing social and environmental challenges facing the world’s cities. Australia has much to offer in demonstrating the benefits of cities that work – how they enrich and enliven a nation and benefit the population as a whole.
The Australian pavilion is expected to attract up to seven million visitors during the May to October operating period of Expo 2010. As well as sophisticated exhibition and promotion space, the pavilion will have a dedicated area which will host an extensive business program to advance Australia’s economic interests with China, our largest merchandise trading partner.
With strong interest from State and Territory Governments and the private sector, an Australian presence at Expo 2010 will reflect a coordinated, national effort to project a positive image of Australia. The Australian pavilion will advance our interests through the diverse Australia-China relationship.
Further information about the project is available at: www.expo2010.org.au.
Think OTS has assembled a team experienced in both China and the Expo-operating environment. Team members have been involved in six Australian pavilions at previous Expos - including the award-winning pavilions in 2000 (Hanover, Germany) and 2005 (Aichi, Japan). Wood Marsh will provide architectural services.
