Shanghai World Expo 2010 - Phase 1

The Australian Government has provided $1.5 million in 2007-08 to fund preparation for Australia’s participation in World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

The Shanghai Expo is set to be the biggest and most dynamic world exposition ever with around 70 million visitors expected to attend and 160 countries exhibiting during the six months of operation. Australia’s pavilion is designed around the theme ‘Better City, Better Life’, demonstrating that we have some of the world’s most liveable cities and that we are at the cutting edge of expertise in environmental and urban design as well as clean energy technologies.

Australia’s presence will reflect the breadth and depth of our relationship with China, highlighting the many powerful economic, social and educational links which bind our two countries together.

Phase 1 funding will be used to prepare project and budget plans for Australia’s presence at the Expo. These plans will cover a wide range of activities, including the business and cultural programs that will take place in and around the Australian pavilion.
