Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum
I will attend the second meeting of the Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum to be held in Melbourne on 29-30 April.
Held under Chatham House rules, the Leadership Forum brings together government, business and academic leaders from both countries for free and frank discussions on key issues affecting Australia-New Zealand relations including economic, defence, political and social ties.
The Chairman of Qantas Margaret Jackson and the Chairman of the Bank of New Zealand Kerry McDonald will again co-chair the meeting following the successful inaugural meeting held in Wellington in May last year. They will be joined by more than 40 prominent Australian delegates and a similar number of New Zealanders (complete list below). The Australian delegates will include Treasurer Peter Costello who will present a paper on the Single Economic Market initiative.
Last year's Leadership Forum called for deeper integration of the Australian and New Zealand economies. This year, delegates will focus on Single Economic Market
issues, the Asia-Pacific free trade agenda and the regional roles and objectives of China, Japan and the United States.
I wish to thank the Governor of Victoria, HE John Landy, and the Victorian Government for contributing generously to the Forum, to be held at Government House in Melbourne, and the sponsors of Australia's participation including Qantas, the ANZ Bank and Telstra for their valuable assistance to the Leadership Forum.
