Waiver of Fees to Replace Passports Damaged or Destroyed in Tsunami

The Australian Government will waive fees for replacing current Australian passports lost or damaged in the Asian tsunami of 26 December 2004.

The Australian public has generously demonstrated its concern for the tsunami victims and a willingness to help them re-establish their daily lives.

The Australian Government is also assisting affected communities around the Indian Ocean rim and individual Australians caught up in the disaster.

As part of the Government's ongoing commitment to the tsunami victims, fees normally charged for replacement Australian passports will be waived.

Replacement passports will have the same expiry date as the original documents.

Australians wishing to replace passports lost or damaged as a result of the tsunamis in December should telephone the Australian Passport Information Service on 131 232.
