2002 Australia-China Council Awards
I am pleased to have been able to recognise the outstanding contribution
made to Australia-China relations by eight former Ambassadors to Australia
and the President of the National Association of Australian Studies.
An initiative of the Australia-China Council, the awards were presented
at ceremonies in Beijing on 8 November and in Shanghai on 10 November
to commemorate the forthcoming 30th Anniversary in December
of the establishmnet of diplomatic relations between Australia and
the People's Republic of China.
Awards were presented to Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhou
Wenzhong, Ambassadors Wang Guoquan, Zhou Qiuye, Lin Ping, Nie Gongcheng,
Zhang Zai, Shi Chunlai and Hua Junduo and Professor Huang Yuanshen.
I congratulate the award recipients on their recognition and for
the significant role they have played in strengthening relations between
Australia and China.
