Government to Help Families Visit Injured Bali Victims Recovering
in Hospital
I am pleased to announce that the Government will pay airfares and
accommodation costs to enable Australians injured in Bali and recovering
in hospitals in Australia to be reunited with family members. This
arrangement is available for families who live a long way from hospitals
where their injured relatives are being treated and would have difficulty
paying for the air travel and accommodation required for hospital
visits.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister told Parliament how help is already
being provided to victims of the Bali disaster and their families,
including by the emergency services. This measure will make an important
contribution. The cost will be met by the Government through ex gratia
payments.
Further information about the measure can be obtained by calling
the toll-free number 1 800 002 214.
