Ministers to Visit Bali and Jakarta
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer, and the Minister
for Justice and Customs, Senator Chris Ellison, will visit Bali from
14 to 15 October to demonstrate the nation's sympathy for victims
and their families, thank emergency response personnel and assess
the situation on the ground.
The visit will enable them to evaluate first hand the contributions
being made by Australia to the emergency response and to the investigation
into the attack.
On 16 October, they will meet with senior members of the Indonesian
Government in Jakarta to discuss cooperative arrangements for pursuing
those responsible for the Bali atrocity.
The visit will build on the efforts the Australian Government has
already made to assist the victims of the attack and to help bring
to justice those responsible. Australian Government personnel have
travelled to Bali over the weekend to assist the Indonesian authorities
in the investigation.
