In Bangkok, Senator Evans will hold discussions with members of the new Thai Government and will address the 1995 Pacific Rim Forum, whose theme is "Preparing for the 21st Century". Senator Evans' address will be on the subject of the evolving post-Cold War environment in the Asia Pacific. Government and business leaders from around the Pacific will attend the Forum.
In Kuala Lumpur, Senator Evans will participate in the inaugural Malaysia-Australia Dialogue. This forum brings together leaders from Australian and Malaysian political, business, media and intellectual circles for discussions on long-term issues affecting both countries. The Malaysia-Australia Dialogue is designed to build networks between our two peoples, to foster clear communication and an understanding of cultural differences.
The Dialogue is being co-sponsored by the Asia-Australia Institute and the Malaysian Strategic Research Centre. The principal Malaysian partcipant will be the present Minister for Education and former Defence Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak.
