Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs appoints new Chief of Staff

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Mr ‘Alopi Latukefu as my new Chief of Staff, effective Monday 26 October 2008.

Mr Latukefu has served with distinction as my Pacific Adviser and I am confident that in his new role he will further advance the Government’s focus in the Pacific region.

Mr Latukefu brings to the role knowledge and personal experience of the Pacific, the information economy, private sector development, and international development generally.

He is the son of Dr Ruth Latukefu and the late Rev Dr Sione Latukefu, both of whom were instrumental in Pacific academia during their twenty years’ service with the University of Papua New Guinea.

I would also like to express my best wishes to my former Chief of Staff Brian Mitchell who, after a busy year in this formative year of Government, has resigned in order to return to the private sector and to spend more time with his young family.
